Patronage and financial support has always played a vitally important role in the lives of musicians, both in the 18th century and today. Handel was known for his generosity towards those in need; he was a founder member of “The Fund for Decay’d Musicians”, the precursor to today’s Royal Society of Musicians of Great Britain.
Since its inception in 2007 The Brook Street Band Trust gratefully acknowledges the support of many charitable trusts and private individuals whose generous donations have made its work more widely accessible. This has primarily been through live performances and radio broadcasts, recordings and educational outreach work, research and publication in print and online, and via its biennial love:Handel festival.
If you would like to make a one-off donation to help support the musical activities of The Brook Street Band, please use the Donate button below, or contact Tatty Theo (trust@brookstreetband.co.uk) to discuss options.
The Brook Street Band is currently fundraising to buy its own harpsichord, a single manual copy of an anonymous Italian instrument, made by renowned Norwich craftsman and instrument builder Alan Gotto. This is expected to be completed by Summer 2024 and will enable The Brook Street Band to expand its programme of concerts and education work in schools and other venues, taking live music to places that typically miss out.
