The Brook Street Bandwagon

“Just to say how much I enjoyed taking part in your fantastic project. What you and everyone else involved achieved was amazing. The music was great, the libretto a joy and so heart-warming to see the enthusiasm of all those kids. And we all had such fun-I was on a real high for the rest of the evening.”

Patronage has always played an important part in the lives of musicians, both in the 18th century and today. Since its inception in 2007 The Brook Street Band Trust gratefully acknowledges the support of the many charitable trusts and private individuals whose generous donations have made the work of The Brook Street Band more widely accessible. This has primarily been through live performances and radio broadcasts, recordings and educational outreach work, research and publication in print and online, and most recently via The Brook Street Band’s new love: Handel festival, a biennial event which takes place in East Anglia.

“I hated singing because I was always told I couldn’t, but then you came and gave me confidence so now I like singing.”

“Thank you so much for involving us in this wonderful project. The children and staff have all thoroughly enjoyed it! Hopefully we can work again with the BSB in the future.”

“The children will have a memory that will last a lifetime. You never know what seeds you have sown.”

Box office income and grants only cover a percentage of income required for the Band to undertake its yearly programme. Support from our family of Friends is vital and during the 18/19 season this boosted the outreach work of the Band through a large education programme in East Anglia, provided rehearsal space, harpsichords and chamber organs, contributed towards love: Handel and enabled research which formed the backbone of new programmes and illustrated pre-concert talks.

If you love: Handel Handel and baroque music, and are interested in supporting our work, there are several ways you can help us on a regular basis, either annually or monthly, by filling in the form at the bottom of the page. You can also click here to make a one-off donation.

Over the past 3 years, funds from charitable trusts and our Special Supporters have enabled The Brook Street Band to expand its work in new and innovative ways; these include commissioning a new contemporary oratorio by composer Matthew King which was first performed at Snape Maltings,  setting up a Community Choir in Haringey and Suffolk enabling people in these local communities to meet and work together and with young people from their local schools and undertaking research and development for a groundbreaking dance-based piece with choreographer William Tuckett and librettist Alasdair Middleton.

Our Special Supporters will play a vital role in facilitating the youth strand of our 2019 love: Handel festival, bringing Handel’s music to a new audience in East Anglia via an extensive Norfolk schools’ programme.
